The first drop test: Just how durable are the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus?

American Keaton Keller, who runs the YouTube channel TechSmartt, has smashed an iPhone 6S and an iPhone 6S Plus on the ground just moments after getting his hands on them in Sydney, Australia.
The YouTube star and his video partner in crime Matt Jones lined up in the rain at the flagship Apple Store on George Street, Sydney, to be third in the world to secure the iPhones. Taking their business seriously, they then moved to a mall in the city's shopping district to perform a drop test with the new devices.
First, he drops both phones from pocket level onto a cement pavement to see what the damage is. Both iPhones seem to hold up well — which Keller attributes to the new 7000 series aluminum used in the phones — with small scratches down the side and a slight dent on the impact zone of both. The next drop test, from ear height, has much the same result. "Overall guys, this is holding up really well," Keller says.
The next drop zone was a bit more dramatic as Keller lets the phones fall from above his head, in a move that would turn the stomach of every Apple fan boy. As the phones smash to the ground, the 6S lands on its screen and shatters on impact. "That's horrible...nasty!" Keller exclaims. In good news, he says, it is still useable and a screen replacement isn't too pricey.
The 6S Plus had a smoother road to impact, as it landed on its back. "If a phone lands on its face it's almost always going to crack the screen, that's a given," Keller says. Besides a few scratches and dents, the iPhone 6S Plus is definitely the winner in the durability stakes. Keller credits its weight, which makes it land in a less dangerous way.
At least someone is prepared to damage their goodies for the greater good. If you want your phone to survive being flung out of a window, according to Keller's test, the iPhone 6S Plus is your best bet. Rose gold optional.
